Castor oil has been used and has been reputed for its many healing properties by many cultures around the world for centuries. In old herbal texts, it is called the "Palma Christi" plant, which is Latin meaning 'the palm of Christ'. Castor oil can be taken internally (in appropriate doses) and/or applied externally. Clinical trials support the use of castor oil for alleviating constipation or bowel irregularity and discomfort. It can also be used to help heal external wounds and it makes an excellent moisturizer including as a lubricant for dry eyes.
