Setting Intentions for Wellness in 2021
Now that we are entering a new year, I think many of us start to feel really overwhelmed by the amount of resolutions we think we need to set.
Personally, I believe that setting small, manageable intentions perform much better than big resolutions.
Below, I have listed some of my top intentions for 2021 that I think all of us could use as a guide to get back into the routine after the Holidays.
Drink one extra cup of water per day.
Drink one extra cup of water per day. I’m sure you knew this one was coming, but it truly does make all of the difference. Especially after the Holidays, our bodies are really lacking hydration. An extra cup of water can help to hydrate our cells and reduce post Holiday sugar headaches.
Start your mornings with a warm lemon water.
Start your mornings with a warm lemon water to aid in digestion. This is seriously my best bloat-free hack! If you do this on a daily basis, you will notice a huge change in the way your body feels in the morning. Just squeeze 1/3 of a lemon in some warm water and sip it as you get ready for the day. Also, make sure to drink it with a straw so you can protect that enamel!
Go for a 30 minute walk each day.
Go for a 30 minute walk each day. I know you probably don’t want to get into the cold air, but after that walk your body will be thanking you.
Listen to one educational podcast each week.
This is one that I think all of us can keep up with! We should constantly be educating ourselves, and what better way to do it than on a walk in nature. Some of my favourite educational podcasts are: The Ultimate Health Podcast and The Skinny Confidential Him & Her.
Start your morning without a screen for at least the first 30 minutes of the day.
Start your morning without a screen for at least the first 30 minutes of the day. I truly think that this can change your day around completely. As soon as we check our phone or laptop, we automatically go into flight or fight mode, which causes the body to be in a state of stress all throughout the day. Try this out for one day, and I promise you will never want to go back to the screen first thing in the morning!
Add a nourishing tea to your nighttime routine.
Add a nourishing tea to your nighttime routine. Teas are incredible as a bedtime aid because they really help us relax and unwind while we experience a warm cup of bliss. I love having something like Traditional Medicinals Lemon Balm tea before bed as it helps to reduce anxiety! Just make sure you are steeping it for at least 10 minutes with a lid on top so you can assure the oils do not evaporate.
Dedicate one day of the week to meal prep.
This is something that I have been doing for four years now, and I honestly look forward to this day every week! If you do your grocery shopping ahead of time and have a few recipe planned out, you could easily finish a few lunches and snacks in three hours. Some of my favourite meal prep staples are hummus and carrots, quinoa salads and chia puddings.
Start journaling in the mornings before you start work.
Start journaling in the mornings before you start work - and don’t let yourself think that you do not have enough time for this. Every time I journal before work, I end up having a much better day. I love journaling about three things I am grateful for, three things I want to accomplish that day and three things I want to work towards every single day.
I hope you can find some inspiration in these intentions! I would recommend starting out with one or two of these and slowly brining the rest into your 2021.
Happy New Year everyone! Wishing you the best health and happiness!
